Roger J. Tremblay, Visual Artist, Teaching Artist, and Engineer, presents an instructional approach that leverages student interest in computers, digital media and art to enhance math learning. Grade-level appropriate curricular connections to mathematics and computer technology are targeted to meet state and national standards.
As a result of taking this workshop, participants will learn how one can relate math to various artistic concepts, such as the relationship of color harmonies to simple geometry properties on a standard Color Circle and how to enable students to create captivating and compelling, mathematically generated images using computer technology that motivates interest in related math.

Zentangle is an easy-to-learn method of creating beautiful images from repetitive patterns. Students will learn a variety of “tangles” (patterns) and combine them in their own unique way. Each tangle is taught step by step, because anything is possible “one stroke at a time.” It’s easy to learn.

Warm up with drawing exercises leading into observational drawing of natural object, and then create a design from your drawing, which is transferred to a printmaking plate. Participants create a print for each person attending this workshop. The prints are the starting point for one-of-a-kind handmade books.
Many fun techniques will be demonstrated to help you embellish your book with collage, paint, mixed media and poetry. You will have much support-No previous art background necessary!

Participants in this workshop will make small clay objects or jewelry using adaptation of traditional Venezuelan ethnic design to create a nearly finished product. Artist Sikiu Perez, currently living and working in Bozrah, CT, will take the art-work home to fire. There is an option to return for glazing your work. Art is expected to be available for pick-up or delivery in 2-3 weeks after firing.

Combine Zentangle® with Mandalas to create beautiful art forms! A Mandala (Sanskrit for “circle”) is a radiating geometric pattern symbolizing the universe. Students will create a Mandala design and then fill it with Tangles, to create a “Zendala” working on a larger piece of beautiful Fabriano Tiepolo paper.
Participants will learn some new tangles and will place previously learned tangles within the Zendala. They will also learn how to draw mandala shapes on their own.
Prerequisite: at least one Zentangle class

Learn to make a simple “square round” splint basket. Introduction to traditional materials used in basket-making. Examples of splint baskets and other forms of basket technologies used by area tribes will be shown.
Participants will hear traditional stories relating to baskets and the use of baskets in the everyday life of local indigenous peoples. Algonquin words that pertain to basket making will be taught.
